Waka ama 2023

On wednesday the Year8s and the Year7s got to have an opportunity to participate in the Waka Ama/Canoeing. We arrived to school with our school uniform and got changed into our clothes we brought, later on we went back to our rooms and prepared our stuff for the Waka Ama, when all of us were ready we waited for the bus to arrive. We were making our way to the bus and we were really excited but if one of us were being clumsy or disrespectful then they would’ve gone back to school. Later on we arrived at Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club and was greeted by a nice lady who then later on told us about the paddle, the boat and the rules.

There were 3 coaches and they chose their teams, once they chose their teams we all went down to the deck and there were 2 boats and each one of us got on our team boats. Only 10 people were able to go on the boat so the coaches chose who was going on the boat and who was waiting for their turn. Everytime a person would go on the boat the boat would shake a little. We did some practices, how to row the boat backwords and forwards then later on we did a race. I didn’t really know who won but it was really fun! We did more races later on eventually we had to pack up.

When I got off the boat the ground was so slippery but with hard rocks I thought I was going to slip and fall. Later on we helped the coaches put the boats get back in the garage, we had to get changed into our school uniform. We took a while but eventually we were done and ran to the bus. We arrived at Saint Patricks, got our lunch and when we were done we started playing on the adventure playground.
