Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi was a Burmese Politician, diplomat, author. On 8th of August 1988 she became the General Secretary of the NLD, she also served as State Counsellor of Myanmar and Minister of Foreign Affairs throughout 2016 to 2021.

Aung San Suu Kyi won a Nobel Peace Prize for her non violent struggle for human rights and democracy. But before all of this she was involved in protests against the military for killing, imprisoning and attacking innocent people. She was inspired by the actions of Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. In 2015, after she was released from house arrest she decided to put an end to the civil war between the country’s. Lowering the army’s involvement in politics and courting foreign investment. She vowed to help the Rohingya Muslims who were attacked and mistreated for a long time. On 30th December 2022 she was sentenced to 33 years in prison for corruption, this was reduced to 27 years.
