SLJ-Japanese Puffer Fish

Yet another SLJ activity and what I had to do was create my own Japanese Puffer Fish design. At first I thought they meant I had to create a new species, but once I watched the video I understood what they meant. I think. But which ever one I enjoyed doing both. I decided to make my design a bit like the sun symbol in the Disney movie “Tangled”. Japanese Puffer Fish create artwork in the sand to catch a females attention. This fun fact reminded me of how penguins find the most smoothest pebble and gift it to a female as a gift.

SLJ-Moana Word Puzzles: Step it up

The step it up version is similar to the kick start one but this time instead of word find its cross word! This time, I wanted the theme of this cross word to be based on a famous kids movie. So I chose one of the best “water” Disney movies, Moana! writing down the words and solving it myself to check if its all in the right place was easy, but the part I found a little bit hard was making this puzzle a bit difficult for the people who want to try it out.

Feel free to check out my cross word puzzle! And once your complete, did you find it easy, average or hard? Let me know in the comments!

SLJ-Moana Word Puzzles

Another SLJ activity and this one might be my favourite one so far. I had to create a word puzzle containing information about something related to the sea. I decided to choose something that isn’t about the creatures that live under the water, but something that includes a human being. So, meet Gratton Grey! Gratton (Colin) Grey was a Merchant Navy Seafarer, who was taken prisoner by Japanese Forces and but into Changi Jail in Singapore until his repatration. He was awarded nine medal rewards, one of them being “The Africa Star”.

Before you have a go at my word puzzle, the words can go down,up,left, right, verticle and backwards. Have fun figuring out where each word is!

SLJ-Cartoon Collectables: Step it up

For the step it up version, I had to make a character inspired by a sea creature. Once the word “sea” came up to me, the first sea creature I thought of was a jellyfish! Although this card doesn’t have a human version, I tried to make it look unique without adding details that ruins the jellyfish bod. I ended up with this design. As for the texture I added in the background of the card,  I used this texture since it reminded me of those underwater aesthetic videos I see on social media.

Also, I added 2 details that relate to a Jellyfishes body. Here’s a hint, the background and the number. Can  you figure out what both of them means?

SLJ-Cartoon Collectibles

For this SLJ activity I had to make a cartoon collectible card. To help me create my character, I decided to combine an animal I love and an animal I fear. And it worked! With the combination of cats and spiders, meet Poisey Cat. Like pussycat but with a spider vibe added to it. I added her two forms, animal form and human form just for fun. One fact about this character is that her claws are filled with Black Widow spider venom. So once she scratches her opponent, they’re done for. I think the kind of person Poisey Cat would be is a sassy, elegant and rich lady who will protect her companions! As long as her clothes dont get stained during battle.

Would you want her as your friend?

SLJ-Origami Fish: Step it up

For the step it up challenge, Instead of doing the easy one, we moved onto the hard one. I did have to restart multiple times but once I completed the first steps thats where I began to have hope. During the process I did have doubts and regrets but I decided to keep going since I knew the conclusion of this project would be beautiful. In the end, I designed my fish with red and green. Inspired by the colors of my favourite holiday, Christmas! Since its nearly coming. But I also wanted to add a little “Summer” to it, so I made sure the patterns gave off “watermelon”.

Did you know, that NASA Engineers use origamis during their work? Like whenever they’re theorising they use this method to design the models. Another fact is origami used to be called “orikata” which in Japanese means “folded shapes”. Then in 1880 it was changed to the name we all know today since “ori” means “folded” and “kami” means “paper” in Japanese. Although creating the fish was quite relaxing, what my favourite part was about this activity is the fact I can research about origami and learn things I have never knew before.

SLJ-Origami Fish

Another SLJ activity and we had to create an origami fish! Although we were supposed to create one, I created 3 instead! To show you the mistakes but designs I’ve made. The 1st one I did didn’t come out as I wanted but at the same time I liked it, which is the “wavy” one. I found the second one, or the lightning bolt one, to be a bit weird looking and it was difficult for me to actually try and like it. But as for the third and smallest one, I was proud of the outcome. But despite my different opinions on each and one of these, they all have something in common. Their fins don’t really match the videos fish origami.

Speaking of origami, did you know in the middle ages samurai’s gave origamis as gifts! Because at that time it symbolized good luck. My favourite part about this activity is having the free will to make our fishes stick out more by adding patterns, whats your favourite part about this activity?

SLJ-WANTED Feared Fish: Step it up

For the step it up activity I had the free will to choose which dangerous sea creature to research on. I was going to choose the red lion fish but I decided to choose the “Candiru” instead, but once I did my research I was shocked to see what the Candiru does and which body part it enters when it has the chance. So to avoid that very “interesting” fact, did you know that the Candiru fish is around 4-8 cm but can reach up to 20 cm?

What do you know about dangerous sea animals? And if you chose the same fish as me, whats your favourite fact about this fish.

SLJ-Wanted Feared Fish

Today for the first SLJ lesson we had to make a poster for one of the most deadliest fishes in the sea, the stonefish! Why is the stonefish one of the most dangerous fishes? You might ask. Well, did you know that the stonefish’s venom can cause death to both marine animals and humans? The symptoms of a sting from a stonefish are pain and swelling, paralysis and even heart failure if left untreated.

Take a look at my poster and see the rest of fun facts about the stonefish!

Swimming 2024

This year definitely made some changes for each event, including swimming. This time instead of hosting it at the beginning of the term, it was arranged at the end. On the first day we were sorted into 3 groups. Every day the coaches would change, which gave us the opportunity to both learn new skills and to learn about all the coaches. On the last day of swimming we got to ride the boats and practice how to save those who are drowning again! Which wasn’t really enjoyable for me if I’m being honest. But it was nice to participate in the CLM swimming lessons one last time.
