For the step it up activity I had to make another poem. So this time I chose a cute creature, the “Dumbo Octopus!”. Im sorry if the audio isn’t clear enough, but if you want to know the words to the poem here it is:

“I am way different than the other octopuses

I wonder why im so small

I hear I only have 3 hearts

I see lots of cute drawings about me but

I want to be more

I am a dumbo octopus

I pretend to enjoy myself

I feel sad deep within

I touch my fins that give me my title

I worry what the future holds for me and my kind

I cry due to the fact that I only have 3 or 5 years left to live

I am a dumbo octopus

I understand why everyone loves me

I say to myself “is this all I am?”

I dream to be big one day

I try to be dangerous but I can’t

I hope my dream only comes true

I am a dumbo octopus.”

For this SLJ activity we had to choose a sea creature and make a poem about them. I really enjoyed this project because it reminded me of the times where my class and I would make poems and share it with each other. But anyways, the sea creature or fish I chose was the blobfish! I chose this fish because in my opinion, it is perfect for an emotional poem. At the end of each verse, I noticed an “I am”. Instead of adding some more words to it, I decided to end it off with “I am a blobfish” to give it off that depressing vibe.

For the step it up version I was surprised to see what kind of activity it was, but in the end this is definitely one of the most creative projects I’ve ever done! Choosing my sea creature to research about was kind of difficult, so I decided to search up unique sea animals to guide me and I ended up with…the Leafy Sea Dragon! Although most of the interesting facts are in the slideshow that you can play below, the first fact I will say is that the Leafy Sea Dragon is smaller than the Weedy Seadragon. The second one being the Leafy Sea Dragon is the only member of the genus Phycodurus and lastly, they are mostly found in Western Australia.
